GCSE
GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education. These are the qualifications obtained by fifteen and sixteen-year-olds in the UK at the end of their Year 11 schooling. Chosen subjects are studied over two years and assessed by final exams or coursework.
The Polish Language GSCE syllabus is set, examinations administered, and certificates awarded by the AQA examinations board. Each year, the awarding bodies decide on a ‘Common Timetable’ to co-ordinate the scheduling of examinations. The timetable usually runs from late May to late June.
The teaching programme for students studying towards their GCSE Polish Examinations is based on the syllabus and specification set by the exam board aqa.org.uk/subjects/languages/gcse/polish-8688. Lessons are taught in both Polish and English in order to prepare students for speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation in their exams.
After registering with their respective school Examinations Officers, students will normally sit their exams at their mainstream secondary school. Students should notify their Examinations Officer, no later than February of the academic year in which they wish to sit the exam. Some schools may require students to cover registration costs in order to be entered for the exam.
Derby Polish Supplementary School is not a registered exam centre and we are therefore unable to conduct the examinations. However, our Head Teacher Mrs Leonida Bandura is a trained speaking examiner and is able to support students wishing to sit their Polish GCSE exam by conducting the speaking element of the examinations in student’s mainstream schools.
Irrespective of where the exam was taken, students will normally receive their exam results during the third week in August. Students can either collect them from school, their exam centre or have them sent by post.
